Scilla peruviana produces large, rounded clusters of starry, deep violet-blue flowers atop sturdy stems in late spring. Each flower head can contain up to 100 individual blossoms, creating a dazzling display that lasts for weeks. Its broad, glossy green leaves form a lush basal rosette, adding texture and interest even when not in bloom.
Despite its name, Scilla peruviana is native to the Mediterranean rather than Peru. It thrives in well-drained soil and a sunny, sheltered spot, making it perfect for borders, rock gardens, and pots. Drought-tolerant once established, it brings a touch of the exotic to any garden while attracting bees and butterflies.
Growing Conditions: Free-draining soil in full sun or part shade. Protect from excessive winter wet.
Height: 30-50cm
Flowering Time: Late spring to early summer
Best For: Borders, rock gardens, pots, pollinator-friendly planting
Supplied as fresh bulbs when dormant or potted in a 1L pot when actively growing.
