A perennial yarrow with a soft, meadow-like quality. Its loose sprays of button-shaped, pure white flowers bloom through mid to late summer, their ruffled edges giving a frothy, relaxed charm to borders, wildflower margins, and naturalistic plantings. The foliage is finely toothed, narrow, and softly aromatic when crushed — a gentle contrast to its cousins’ bolder, ferny leaves.

Unlike many yarrows, A. ptarmica tolerates moisture-retentive soils well and heavier loams or clay-rich ground, making it especially useful in gardens where drainage is less than perfect. It is very versatile, it copes well with damp conditions and will still handle dry spells once mature.

Traditionally used in herbal medicine, its common name "sneezewort" harks back to its powdered form being used to trigger sneezing — a curious folk remedy that belies the delicacy of its flowers. In modern gardens, it’s best appreciated for its long bloom season, naturalistic beauty, and quiet support of pollinators.

Forms a clump 40–60 cm tall and 30–40 cm wide, gently expanding over time. Best cut early for use in fresh arrangements, where its airy sprays bring lightness to bouquets.

Growing Conditions:

Thrives in full sun or part shade. Enjoys moisture-retentive but not boggy soil. Tolerates heavier clay and light summer dryness. Fully frost hardy.
