A low-growing, evergreen perennial valued for its vivid magenta-red flowers and trailing habit. Blooming profusely in early spring across New Zealand, it forms a dense mat of fine, grey-green foliage that softens edges and spills beautifully over walls, containers, or stonework. Though petite in stature, it delivers high impact when massed or used in alpine settings.

Native to regions of southern Europe, this cultivar thrives in dry, sunny positions and is especially effective in rockeries or raised beds where drainage is sharp. It dislikes wet feet during winter but is fully hardy and resilient once established. Aubrieta is semi-evergreen to evergreen in NZ conditions.
