With its vivid golden-yellow flowers and deep brown cones, Helenium autumnale ‘Autumn Lollipop’ adds warmth and energy to the late-season border. Tall, upright stems carry masses of daisy-like blooms from late summer to mid autumn in New Zealand, offering valuable colour just as many other perennials are winding down. Its strong stems make it excellent for cutting, and the flowers are a magnet for bees and beneficial insects.
Growing 75–90 cm tall and spreading around 45–60 cm, ‘Autumn Lollipop’ has a more statuesque presence than the compact ‘Lollipop’ cultivar. It thrives in full sun and prefers moist but well-drained soil, with better performance when not allowed to dry out in summer. Deadheading prolongs the display and helps maintain a tidy clump.
Despite the common name “sneezeweed,” Helenium is not allergenic — it was once used as dried snuff, hence the name.
