An unusual and eye-catching perennial, Linaria triornithophora offers upright spires of purple and yellow flowers that resemble three birds perched on a stem—hence its common name. Blooming from late spring to early summer in New Zealand, these distinctive blooms rise above soft, narrow foliage, bringing a whimsical touch to the garden. Although relatively compact, it has a bold presence when planted in groups.
Native to southern Europe and Turkey, it thrives in free-draining soils and full sun, particularly in gravel gardens, rockeries, or the front of a sunny border. Bees and other pollinators are drawn to its vivid flowers, making it a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
