A late-summer star for moist garden borders, Lobelia siphilitica sends up upright spikes of vivid blue, tubular flowers from late summer into early autumn in New Zealand. The blooms are a magnet for bees and butterflies, standing out against narrow, deep green foliage that forms a tidy clump. Originally native to North America’s damp meadows and streambanks, this hardy perennial thrives in similar moisture-retentive conditions and naturalistic plantings.Grows to around 80 cm tall and 30–45 cm wide. Easy to divide in winter or early spring when clumps enlarge over time.
