Silene uniflora is a low-growing, mat-forming perennial ideal for dry, coastal, or rocky sites. It produces dainty, five-petalled white flowers, often tinged with pale pink, from late spring through early summer. These blooms sit atop trailing stems and silvery-green foliage, offering a soft contrast to stone or gravel. Native to sea cliffs and dunes of Europe, this plant naturally tolerates salt spray and thrives in well-drained soils, making it especially useful for challenging coastal gardens or dry landscapes. Its tidy, spreading habit works well as ground cover in sunny borders or rockeries.
Grows to approximately 15–30 cm tall, with a spread of 30–45 cm.
Deciduous in colder regions; foliage may persist in milder zones.
Growing conditions:
• Prefers full sun
• Well-drained soil, tolerates dry conditions
• Frost hardy
Uses:
• Ground cover for rockeries, walls, or coastal gardens
• Suitable for dry, exposed sites and erosion-prone slopes
• Attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies
