Trifolium ochroleucum, or yellow clover, is a perennial legume with a gentle character and surprising ecological value. Its soft, pale yellow flower heads sit neatly above a cushion of trifoliate foliage, blooming from late spring into early summer. Low and neat in growth, it weaves quietly through meadow plantings or wildflower areas, enriching the soil as it fixes nitrogen — a subtle but powerful act of garden regeneration. Bees are particularly drawn to its nectar-rich blooms, making it an excellent support plant for pollinator-friendly spaces.
Native to Europe and parts of Asia, it reaches about 30 cm tall and wide, forming a tidy ground cover that thrives in full sun and light, well-drained soil. Hardy.
Growing conditions:
• Prefers full sun to light shade
• Well-drained, slightly acidic soil
• Frost hardy
• Flowering period: Late spring to early summer
Uses:
• Ideal for low-maintenance wildflower gardens and ground cover
• Attracts bees and supports soil health through nitrogen fixation
• Blends beautifully with grasses and other soft meadow perennials
