Allium nutans

$18.50

Out of stock

Allium nutans is a rarely seen, clump-forming perennial onion with graceful, nodding umbels of lilac-pink flowers held above broad, strap-shaped grey-green foliage. Blooming from early to mid-summer, the blooms attract bees and other pollinators in abundance. Unlike many of its ornamental relatives, A. nutans has soft, flattened leaves that remain tidy through the season, forming a neat, low mound.

Native to Central Asia and Siberia, it is fully frost hardy and thrives in a wide range of conditions, particularly sunny, free-draining spots. The flowers make excellent additions to wildflower borders, gravel gardens, or semi-dry planting schemes. Leaves are edible, with a mild onion flavour, and the plant will gently self-sow in ideal conditions without becoming weedy.
