Geum rivale ‘Gold Dragon’ is a cheerful, long-lived perennial with nodding apricot-yellow blooms held above soft green foliage. The semi-double flowers have warm golden tones flushed with coppery pink, and appear from mid to late spring, often repeating in early summer if deadheaded. It forms a tidy, slowly spreading clump about 30–40 cm tall and wide, making it perfect for edging paths, softening the front of borders, or naturalising in moist meadow plantings.
This European native prefers full sun to light shade and grows best in rich, moisture-retentive but free-draining soil. It typically stays evergreen in New Zealand climates.
Growing conditions:
• Prefers full sun to part shade
• Moist, well-drained soil
• Fully frost hardy
Uses:
• Great for meadow-style plantings, cottage borders, or edging
• Attracts bees and other early-season pollinators
• Repeat blooming with deadheading
