Egyptian Walking Onion (Allium × proliferum)

$11.50

Out of stock

Egyptian walking onion, also known as Allium × proliferum, is a hardy perennial vegetable that produces unique, edible bulbs, bulbils and leaves. These onions are famous for their ability to "walk" across the garden by sending up new bulbs at the top of their stems, which eventually tip over and root themselves in the soil, creating a new plant. This self-propagating feature gives them their name.

The walking onions' bulbs are small but pack a strong flavour, similar to shallots. They're also known for their ability to thrive in poor soils, making them a great addition to low-maintenance gardens.

Growing to a height of around 30–45 cm, these onions form clumps and thrive in well-drained, fertile soil. They can tolerate full sun to partial shade and are frost hardy.
