Purple Stripe Garlic
Purple Stripe garlic is a classic hardneck garlic known for its richly coloured bulbs and full, complex flavour. The outer skins carry distinctive purple streaks over a pale base, giving the bulbs a beautifully patterned appearance. Inside, a tidy ring of large cloves surrounds the central stem, making them easy to peel and convenient to use in the kitchen.
This garlic group is valued for both flavour and garden performance. Plants grow vigorously through winter and spring, producing strong bulbs and a central flowering stalk, or scape, in late spring. Removing the scape encourages the plant to direct energy into bulb formation while also providing a delicious early harvest.
Purple Stripe garlics have long been grown in cooler regions where their reliable growth and excellent culinary quality have made them a favourite among gardeners and cooks alike.
