Salvia pratensis ‘Swan Lake’
$16.90
Out of stock
Dense spikes of pure white flowers above a compact clump of aromatic, softly textured foliage in early summer, with another display in autumn if the first stems are cut back promptly. Native across the meadows of Europe and western Asia, Salvia pratensis takes its species name from the Latin word for meadow, reflecting the open, sunny habitats where it naturally grows. ‘Swan Lake’ is a compact selection that brings a clean point of contrast to colourful borders and is particularly effective in white-themed planting. This very frost-hardy, deciduous perennial is drought tolerant once established and highly attractive to bees and other beneficial insects. Height 50 cm
Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun or light partial shade in average to fertile, freely draining soil. Avoid persistently wet winter ground. Water while establishing, then only during extended dry periods. Cut the first flowering stems back by about half to encourage fresh foliage and repeat flowering.
Uses
Ideal for border fronts, white gardens, gravel-style planting, smaller gardens, containers and pollinator-friendly displays.
