Thymus serpyllum ‘Snowthyme’

Tiny white flowers smother a low, spreading carpet of aromatic green foliage from late spring into summer, creating the appearance of fresh snow scattered across the ground. ‘Snowthyme’ is a white-flowered selection of creeping thyme, whose wild relatives grow across dry grasslands and rocky places from Europe into western Asia and North Africa. The small evergreen leaves release their familiar thyme fragrance when brushed or lightly walked upon, although this selection is grown primarily as an ornamental groundcover. Very frost hardy, drought tolerant and loved by bees, it performs particularly well in sunny, lean ground where many other plants struggle. Height 10–15 cm.

Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun in dry, sandy, gravelly or stony soil with excellent drainage. Avoid rich feeding, heavy clay and wet winter conditions. Water while establishing, then only during prolonged dry periods. Trim lightly after flowering if needed to maintain a dense mat.
Uses
Ideal between widely spaced pavers, along path edges, over banks and walls, in rockeries, gravel gardens and pollinator-friendly groundcover planting.
