Ledebouria cooperi

Out of stock

Small racemes of star-shaped lilac-pink flowers appear among narrow, bright green leaves in spring and early summer, forming gradually expanding colonies only 10–25 cm tall. The leaves vary naturally and may be spotted, striped or completely unmarked, meaning individual plants can develop their own distinctive pattern. Native to moist South African grasslands, this deciduous bulb was originally classified as Scilla cooperi and was named for the plant collector Thomas Cooper. It disappears underground during winter and is remarkably frost hardy while dormant, provided the soil remains reasonably dry.

Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun or light partial shade in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Provide regular moisture during active spring and summer growth, then reduce watering as the foliage dies away. It tolerates heavier soil during growth but needs good winter drainage.
Uses
Ideal for rockeries, border edges, containers, small bulb collections, damp summer-growing gardens and naturalising into low colonies.
