‘Touch of Snow’ is a charming grape hyacinth whose tightly packed spring flowers open deep blue below a snowy white tip. The white gradually turns blue as each flower matures, so the 15–20 cm stems seem to change colour as the display develops. This very frost-hardy, deciduous bulb originated as a selection of Muscari armeniacum, a species native to southeastern Europe and western Asia. It multiplies readily without needing much attention, gradually forming generous spring drifts before its foliage dies back for summer.
Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun or partial shade in almost any reasonably drained soil. It is an easy, adaptable bulb that tolerates winter cold and summer dryness well. Allow the foliage to yellow naturally after flowering so it can feed the bulb for the following season.
Uses
Excellent beneath deciduous trees, along path edges, in rockeries, pots and informal spring drifts. The early flowers provide useful food for bees.
