Primula beesiana is a candelabra primrose producing tier after tier of magenta-pink flowers with small golden eyes in late spring and early summer. The upright stems reach approximately 45–60 cm above rosettes of fresh green foliage, which die back over winter. Native to the damp mountain meadows and stream margins of southwestern China, it is named a candelabra primrose because its flowers are arranged in stacked whorls like the branches of a traditional candleholder.
Growing Conditions
This plant genuinely enjoys moisture. Grow it in consistently damp, humus-rich soil in partial shade or gentle sun. It is very frost hardy and handles heavy, moisture-retentive soil well, but struggles in hot, dry positions. Water thoroughly during extended dry weather and divide crowded clumps after flowering.
Uses
An excellent choice for pond margins, stream edges, bog gardens, damp woodland borders and other naturally moist areas. Planting several together creates an impressive layered display.
