‘Hot Pink’ is a low, hardy North American catchfly that smothers itself in brilliant pink flowers during spring. Its evergreen to semi-evergreen mounds grow approximately 25–30 cm tall and cope remarkably well with dry, lean ground. Fine sticky hairs on the stems can trap tiny insects, giving catchflies their common name, although the plant is not carnivorous. After its main display, occasional deadheading can encourage scattered later flowers.
Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun or light partial shade in ordinary, freely drained soil. This is a tough, very frost-hardy perennial that tolerates poor, stony ground and drought once established. Avoid rich feeding and persistently wet soil, which can encourage soft growth and shorten its life.
Uses
Excellent for rockeries, dry banks, gravel gardens, retaining walls, containers and the front of sunny borders. Its early flowers are also attractive to pollinating insects.
