Veronicastrum virginicum 'Caeruleum' is a stately perennial prized for its tall, tapering spires of soft lavender-blue flowers, which emerge in mid to late summer above elegant whorls of lance-shaped green leaves. The flowers seem to shimmer in the breeze, adding graceful vertical movement to perennial borders. Despite their height, the upright stems rarely need staking, and the plant's strong architectural form brings structure without heaviness.
Traditionally known as "Culver's Root," this North American native was once used in herbal medicine for digestive support though today it is grown primarily for its ornamental value and appeal to pollinators. It thrives in well-drained soils and performs well in New Zealand gardens.
