Asiatic Garlic
Asiatic garlic is a vigorous hardneck garlic known for its early maturity and strong bulb development. The bulbs are typically smooth and slightly flattened, often carrying subtle purple or bronze tones beneath the outer wrappers. Inside, a tidy ring of large cloves surrounds the central stem, making preparation in the kitchen quick and easy.
Plants grow strongly through winter and spring, producing mature bulbs earlier than many other garlic groups. This early harvest window makes it a useful variety for growers wanting fresh garlic at the start of the season.
As a hardneck garlic, Asiatic produces a central flowering stalk known as a scape in late spring. Removing the scape helps direct energy into bulb formation while also providing a delicious early harvest from the garlic patch.
Height: 50-70 cm
Spread: 10-15 cm per plant
Growing Conditions
Plant cloves in late autumn to early winter in fertile, free-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Prefers full sun and consistent moisture during winter and spring, followed by drier conditions as bulbs mature. Frost hardy.

A robust kitchen garlic suited to roasting, sautéing, and fresh use where a full garlic flavour is desired. Scapes can be harvested and used like green garlic or blended into pesto.
